Here at PALCS, students enroll from all around the state for many different reasons. Getting the chance to speak to students and their families to learn their stories is one of the great joys of being a state-wide cyber charter school. We recently had the chance to speak to parent Colleen Ellison, who has two students enrolled here at PALCS. The Ellison family lives in Allegheny County and frequently visitsthe PALCS Western Regional Office located in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Byler family has eight children, all of whom have attended PALCS at some point during their schooling. Five Bylers are PALCS graduates and an additional student remains with us as a senior this year. We recently had the chance to speak to the Byler family about their students, what they are doing now, and how school choice and cyber school impacted their family.

PALCS Students & Guests Party at Snowball Dance

On January 20, 2017, PALCS students, guests, and staff gathered together on both sides of the state to dance the night away at PA Leadership’s annual Snowball Dance. Two dances were held, one in the east in West Chester and one in the west in Pittsburgh. PALCS students in grades 9-12 were invited to attend along with their guests.

Student Spotlight: William McGregor

PALCS student William McGregor has been selected as a National YoungArts Foundation Merit Winner. William is 16 years old and in 11th grade here at PALCS. He is a member of the University Scholars program (USP) and has attended the Juilliard Pre-College program in NYC for the past eight years studying the double bass.

PALCS Family Interviewed by TV News about Internet Filtering

The Lackey family was recently interviewed by WPVI’s Erin O’Hearn for the Channel 6 Action News segment know as “Your Life,” which aired in the Philadelphia area on November 2, 2016. The family was interviewed about their experience using a new filtering device to enforce internet safety and time spent in front of the computer. The new system is called Circle; it is designed to make the most out of technology while still keeping families connected and safe over the internet. While PALCS places a security filter on all of our devices known as iBoss, the Lackey family wanted to explore an additional internet filtering system for their personal devices, as well.
