2019 Educational Trip to Eastern Europe

PALCS is excited to announce that the next high school extended stay trip will be to Eastern Europe! A group of PALCS high school students and teachers will be traveling to Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary in June of 2019. As the group travels, they will learn about the Iron Curtain and World War II, see Gothic cathedrals, and explore vibrant cities.

Creative Writing Circle

There is a new activity group to PALCS this year: the Creative Writing Circle! The "CW" Circle is a group of students in grades 9-12 and their faculty advisors, Ms. Walsh and Mr. Pettit, who gather to collaborate, inspire, and help one another with ideas and techniques in free-writing, composing poems, short stories, novels, and other creative works. The group also aims to create a safe environment and outlet for young authors at PALCS to find their voices in writing.

Back in the Spotlight: William McGregor

William McGregor has had an incredible journey here at PALCS, which was recently covered in his Student Spotlight. However, this soon-to-graduate double bass player’s high school journey is not over just yet. William has been nominated as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, an honor which only 60 students in the entire country receive.

3.14 Pi Day!

Hey PALCS, did you know today is Pi Day? No, we are not talking about your mother’s famous cherry pie or the award-winning apple pie from the diner down the street. We are referring to pi, π, the sweetest irrational number out there. Pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter or, as you may recognize it, 3.14 or 22/7.

If you were a fly on the wall at any of the PALCS offices this past Friday, March 2, you would have seen what we mean when we say there is always something going on within the PALCS community! Students from all different grades and their families gathered at PALCS offices across the state for different events and activities that took place throughout the day.

Presidential Scholar nominee, PALCS graduating junior, scholarship winner, flutist, sister, and proud daughter are just a few terms to describe Audrey Emata. At only sixteen years old, Audrey has already accomplished so much, including being named as a nominee for the U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts Award, an honor that only 60 students in the entire country receive. We recently had the opportunity to speak to Audrey’s mother, Christina, about her talented daughter’s future goals and her journey to becoming a Presidential Scholar.
